Introduction

On 17-July-2000 I joined manugistics inc.


The Company

My Position

On 17-July-2000 I joined Manugistics. I was assigned to the Server team development group for the NetWORKS/Transport software product. The first version I began working with was 6.1.1. and I was responsible for the NT services which also ran as UNIX daemons.

Purpose
  • Codes and tests new software, enhancements, and/or corrections to existing software. Functions as project leader for assigned development projects, including new releases and ongoing maintenance. Assists other developers and coordinates efforts on project team to meet project deadlines. (40%)
  • Carries out technical analysis and design for implementing new software functionality. sometimes interfaces directly with the marketing organizations and customers to determine needs. Prepares and makes presentations to explain proposed software methodologies to both internals and clients to gain approval. (20%)
  • Coordinates activities with team members and participates in peer review process. Provides constructive recommendations for approaching various issues facing the development team. Coordinates the training of other software developers to expand the general technical knowledge base. (20%)
  • Works closely with operations group to resolve identified software defects, and to ensure the quality of any modified or new software. (15%)
  • Prepares project estimates and presents both written and oral project status reports. Assists the technical writers in the preparation of new and revised documentation. (5%)

Essential Specifications
  • 5-8 years full-life cycle applications development experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with customers and other team members.
  • 3+ years experience with C and/or C++ programming language.
  • Exposure to ORACLE RDB development, SQL a must.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of full-life cycle applications development process.
  • ability to meet deadlines, to concentrate and to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly over the telephone.

Non-Essential Specifications
  • Experience in a Supply Chain Management environment preferred.
  • willingness to travel to client sites.
  • Knowledge of Windows 3.1, Windows 95, NT, and UNIX operating systems.
  • Ability to type on a computer keyboard and spend considerable amount of time at a computer terminal.
  • Experience providing client services preferred.


The Future

Manugistics seemed to become a victim of the .com bust. It went through several rounds of payment freezes, pay reductions, lay-offs, and other management tricks. Finally, the company was purchased by JDA software.
